Session with Chris Joyner

Had a fantastic time with Chris Joyner this last weekend. He made it down to the house on Friday night and we had a grand time recording some originals I had been writing on the Stick. I found that the format that I was presenting to him was an unaccompanied format, very busy and intricate.  He helped me to ease back and take a step back. To approach each  song in a more relaxed manner.

The amazing CJ split his time between nylon string guitar, keyboards, songwriter and engineer.

The end result was 5 sketches, 4 which are mostly complete and a cover of Peter Gabriel’s Mercy Street. All in a very rough format. I am hopeful that we can add 2 more originals in our next meeting.  Next step is to get the recordings over to Zack Norman who is going to be our principal lyricist.

We worked on Saturday as well and then dropped off the girls at Deanne’s folks house and then headed over to South Coast winery for some sampling. It was a great way to end the evening. CJ is amazing in so many ways, just a beautiful soul and someone I really admire and having the honor of playing music with.
